Need stressed for giving priority to IT

PESHAWAR – NWFP Assembly Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan has underlined the need for attaching priority to information technology at the national level to meet modern challenges.

Inaugurating a three-day IT exhibition and conference ‘Brainstorm-2004’ at a local hotel on Arpil 26, he said the Muslim Ummah should pay more attention to the modern way of imparting education.

“Students are our future and we must equip them with latest knowledge of science and technology,” he added. The speaker expressed the hope that Brainstorm-2004 would prove a turning point in IT and computer sector in the province.

Information Minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai, who was the guest of honour, called for increased collaboration between public and private sectors for the promotion of IT and computer education in the province.

He said about 70 per cent of population was living in rural areas and added that measures should be taken to improve the lot of the rural population through use of IT. He said India had made significant achievements in the field of computers and Pakistan should follow suit.
