Nadra issues 60 millionth CNIC

Karachi:The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Wednesday announced the issuance of the 60 millionth Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). The card was issued to Guli Bai, a resident of Mirpurkhas.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, National Database and Registration Authority, Brig (Retd) Saleem Ahmed Moeen, said that with the issuance of the 60-millionth CNIC, the authority had achieved yet another milestone and demonstrated its important role not only in building a national database but facilitating citizens through the computerised ID cards.

“This achievement is a testimony to NadraÂ’s commitment to the very cause of its formation i.e. the electronic database of the citizens and issuance of CNICs”, he said

He said that the infrastructure inducted by Nadra could process around 100,000 applications a day while its daily receipt of applications was around 20,000. In this regard, he said that 365 swift centres across the country and 189 mobile registration vans were operational whereas the previous registration department had only 119 District Registration offices.

“In order to maintain transparency and accuracy, Nadra has activated the Automated Finger Identification System (AFIS) to eliminate duplication and forgery of CNICs. This system can check one fingerprint against 16 million fingerprints on Nadra’s existing database in just one second.”

He advised the citizens not to use fake or forged documents for applying a CNIC as they will be caught due to these Hi-Tech systems.
