Munter brushes aside US media report about Gen Patraeus

Muhammad Saleh Zaafir

ISLAMABAD: The US ambassador in Pakistan has brushed aside an impression that General David Petraeus would be fighting his third war in Pakistan upon assuming head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as reported by the US media.

“I don’t think so,” was the quick remarks made by US ambassador in Pakistan Cameron C Muntor when he was asked to comment on the US media reports about US Army general, who is serving as the commander of International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) and commander US forces in Afghanistan (USFOR-A). The general has been designated to head the CIA that will provide total command on drones’ movement.

The US ambassador who was a guest in the GHQ second Yaum-e-Shuhada ceremonies in Rawalpindi Saturday evening, in a brief chat with The News said that the US general in question has not been quoted for such observations, and the ambassador endorsed the view that it was a mere media speculation.

The ambassador stayed in the ceremony for more than three hours. The US ambassador was seated next to the kith and kin of the martyred enclosure and took keen interest in the whole proceedings.

When asked was it troublesome for him to sit so long without having any inkling about the language in which the proceedings were being conducted, “No, I could make what was being talked and said,” he quibbled.
