Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and former federal minister Aminul Haque, Rehan Hashmi and other party leaders on Saturday visited the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to participate in a protest organised by the KPC under the auspices of the Karachi Journalists Committee.

They condemned the killings of journalists and the illegal sacking of journalists from their jobs. Senior journalists from various media organisations, including Mazhar Abbas and Imtiaz Faran, were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to the protesters, Haque said the MQM-P stands with journalists in every era and voices its concerns for the rights of journalists on every forum.

“Instead of always thinking about political gains and losses, whenever owners of media organisations have slashed the salaries of those associated with the field of journalism or have fired journalists, we have always stood by our journalist brothers.”

He said that in recent years, there has been an increase in incidents of killings of journalists in Sindh, which is extremely alarming. Independent journalism is a symbol of vibrant and civilised societies, and law enforcement agencies should ensure complete protection for journalists, he added.

The MQM-P leader demanded that the Sindh government arrest the killers of journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar and ensure swift justice for the victim’s family. He urged all forums to voice their concerns to ensure justice for the families of the journalists killed in the province.
