MoU signed for Technology Park

LAHORE – The Software Export Board (PSEB) May 10 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Internet City for setting up a modem and high —tech Technology Park in Pakistan.

According to the press release, Federal Minister for Information Technology, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and senior officials of the Dubai Internet City were also present at the MoU signing ceremony. The MoU was signed by Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Dubai Internet City and Dr. Aamir Matin, Managing Director, PSEB.

Under the MoU, Dubai Internet City and PSEB will jointly explore the possibility of setting up a Technology Park in Pakistan. The two organizations will jointly commit resources in examining the feasibility of such a project.

The minister said that he was confident that this MoU would help spur the growth of IT and IT — enabled services industry in Pakistan.

“Pakistan has seen a very rapid growth in the IT – enabled sector over the past year or so, and the government is committed to providing right incentives to ensure that the growth is sustained,” he said.

He added that incentives the government of Pakistan had offered to investors included exemption from corporate taxes, subsidized training programmes for developing human resources for the industry, and assisting companies in obtaining quality certifications.

Speaking on the occasion CEO of Dubai Internet City said Pakistan’s ICT industry had shown considerable promise over the last few years.
