PESHAWAR – The cell phone dealers are making huge profits from the sale of Ufone pre-paid connections and charging the consumers between Rs500 to Rs1,000 more illegally.

Ufone on May 12 morning launched its new pre-paid Josh Package and by afternoon the three legal franchises in the city announced the sale of 30,000 connections, many at inflated prices, said enraged consumers who were not allowed to purchase the connection at its original price of Rs1,449.

“Those who can pay Rs500 and more extra can get the pre­paid connections from these franchises. And for those who want to pay its original price are denied the service,” said one of the consumers.

On the same evening, these three franchises sold thousands of pre-paid connections to cell phone dealers at Rs1,900 each and on May 13 the rate shoot up to Rs2,100 said one of the cell phone dealers at Bilour Plaza in cantonment area.

“We are selling the Rs1,499 connection at between Rs2,200 to Rs2,500 depending on the customers,” he commented.

Another dealer in the same plaza said the three legal franchise of Ufone had started advance booking for the new package, but they sold out most of the connections to dealers.
