Missing journalist escapes from kidnappers’ custody

QUETTA (November 28 2007): A local journalist Riaz Mengal has surfaced after escaping from custody of kidnappers after about two months from mountainous areas near Noshki. Addressing a press conference here at the press club, Riaz Mengal said that some kidnappers had picked him on October 4 last from Khuzdar and shifted to some unknown location in mountainous area.

He said that he had escaped from their custody and after passing 48 hours journey on foot reached here on Tuesday. He said that after running away from the captors he asked a passer-by who told him that he was in the mountainous areas on the right side Noshki and on the left Mastung.

He said that he had recognised one of the kidnappers whose name was Rasheed Sidrani, union council nazim, adding that they had kidnapped him as revenge after filing a story relating to car-theft in which police had arrested some thieves.

They also pressurised him to file clarification story, but he denied. He said that his brother has already lodged a FIR in the concerned police station in Khuzdar. It is pertinent to mention here that journalists across the province staged demonstrations and protest rallies for recovery of Riaz Mengal.
