Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman award for Mushtaq Yousufi

KARACHI:Mushtaq Yousufi, renowned humorist and story writer, was awarded, the 14th Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman National Solidarity Award on the occasion of the 23rd Sardar Ali Sabri death anniversary on Thursday.

The event was organised by the Sardar Ali Sabri Memorial Society in collaboration with the Jang Group of Newspapers, in recognition of his 44 years of contribution to writing.

Mohammed Ali Durrani, Federal Information Minster, presented the award, while Mehmood Sham, Group Editor, Jang, was among the guests. The ceremony was presided over by the Information Minster, while Dr Jamil Jalibi, former Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest of the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the Information Minster, in a tribute to Mushtaq Yousufi, said that he had received this mark of respect in his lifetime which showed his contribution to Urdu literature. Usually, he said, people’s contributions were recognized after they died, but Yousufi had made this achievement during his lifetime.

Pakistan had produced people like Yousufi for which the nation should be thankful, he said. “Pakistan is ours, but unfortunately those who laid down their lives for its establishment were deprived of their rights and were not given the status they deserved”, he said.

Mehmood Sham, Editor, Jang group, Prof Dr WaqarAhmed, Registrar, Karachi University, Prof Rana Alvi, Shafiq-ur-Rehman Piracha, and Dr Azra Usmani spoke on the occasion. Yousufi held the audience spellbound with his adroit style of conversation.

The Sardar Ali Sabri Award was also awarded to the position holders of the Mass Communications Department for 2005 and 2006. Sadia Jamil, Sara Wahid, and Riffat Mohsin respectively received award for first, second, and third positions for 2005.

The recipients of the Sardar Ali Sabri awards for 2006 were Sidra Rafique, Reporter, The News, who stood first class first in Mass Communications, while Rana Afzal, and another staffer of The News, Javeria, got the awards for the second and third positions respectively.
