Ministry to hold 10-day celebrations

LAHORE: Federal Minster for Human Rights (HR) Syed Mumtaz Alam Gilani has said the ministry will hold 10-day celebrations to mark the International Human Rights Day.

Speaking to a Press conference on Sunday, the minister said they would organise seminars and human rights awareness programs across the country from December 1 to 10.

He said he would participate in a ceremony of peasants at Sukhar on December 1 and would address a seminar ‘Peace, Democracy and Human Rights’ at Rahim Yar Khan on December 2. He said he would also visit Ghari Khuda Bakhash to offer fateha at the shrines of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

The minister said he would visit different cities of the country including Karachi, Quatta and Haripur Hazara to join hands with the human rights activists in 10 days.

“A concluding session at Islamabad will be organised wherein Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would distribute medals among the human rights activists who performed outstandingly”, he added.

Regional Directorate HR Lahore would organise an open talk forum with title of ‘Exiting Laws of Human Rights and their Improvement’ on December 6. The talk would be presided over by Federal Secretary HR Justice (r) Riaz Kiyani while Addl IG Research and Development Malik Khuda Bakhash would be guest of honour on the occasion.
