By: Noor Aftab

ISLAMABAD: Directing Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) not to play the role of a judge, the Ministry of Human Rights through a letter on Wednesday asked it to submit a report about ban on late night mobile phone packages within a week.

A copy of the letter (available with “The News”) showed that Advisor on Human Rights Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar stated: “I would like to inquire as to under what law the PTA has taken up the role of a judge and enforcer of public morality.”

It is pertinent to mention here that ban on late night mobile phone packages has been appreciated by various segments of society but there are also other people who think it violation of basic human rights.

The letter further stated, “Safeguarding public morality is something that is, to the best of my knowledge, not in the PTA’s domain.” “I hereby direct to ensure that PTA does not transgress its limits. I further direct that a report in this regard must be furnished to my office within a week,” it said.
