Media team stopped from filming LHC building

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) security on September 11, stopped the crew of a private TV channel from shooting part of the LHC building, which has been demolished.

An Indus TV channel team, consisting of Nadeem Zaeem (reporter), Imtiaz Khan (cameraman) and a driver, went to the LHC to interview Lahore High Court Bar Association President Ahmad Awais. But the security officials did not allow them to make a video of the damaged parts of the LHC building. However, they allowed the team to interview Mr Awais. After the interview, the security staff checked the video camera and the film shot on the LHC premises and kept the media team in the security office for 30 minutes.

Mr Awais told Daily Times that he was being interviewed in the veranda and the demolished part of LHC building was in the background. Security personnel say making a video or taking pictures of the LHC is not allowed.”

An LHC spokesman confirmed that there was a restriction on shooting or taking pictures of the LHC building. The west wing of the LHC is to be torn down and reconstructed. The plans have angered architects and conservationists, who say the building is part of Lahore’s heritage.
