Media studies’ to be given priority, says Mumtaz

PESHAWAR – Vice-chancellor (VC) University of Peshawar Lt. Gen (Retd) Mumtaz Gul has said that Journalism and Mass Communication department of the University of Peshawar would be equipped with modern facilities so that to train and produce qualified and skilled journalists.

He was addressing concluding session of a two week workshop on “Parliamentary and Court Reporting” organized by Department of Journalism in collaboration with International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) Germany and Peshawar Press Club.

Ten working journalists, having membership of Peshawar Press Club and a teacher of journalism department participated in the workshop conducted by Amin Kassam media consultant of Inwent from Germany.

Mr. Fabian Richter, Head of Press and Cultural section of the Embassy of federal Republic of Germany at Islamabad also addressed and handed over certificates to the participants.

Mumtaz Gul said that media was playing vital role in the present age and mould the society calling upon the working journalists to mainly focus on qualitative reporting.
