‘Media should promote unity, cohesion in society’ Share
ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Prof Mehdi Hassan on Monday said media has a social responsibility and it should exercise its freedom in a way that promotes unity and cohesion in the society.
Talking to a TV channel, he said the MQM workers were perturbed over the statement of a provincial Minister but media repeatedly telecast statement for 92 times despite the fact it caused the violence.
If such trend persists, people will have reservations about its role, he added.
He said HRCP tried to contact all the stakeholders during its investigation process.
He said the HRCP only entertained claims duly supported by evidence, as it did not bring verbal claims on the record.
