Media should apprise facts of dengue virus: Punjab CM

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has made an appeal to intellectuals, columnists, editors and anchorpersons to play their role for urging public to participate in the drive against dengue virus and provide guidance to him through their programmes, news, articles and editorials.

He was talking to prominent journalists during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on Monday.

The CM said a comprehensive strategy had been adopted in consultation with Sri Lankan experts for controlling the dengue virus, adding that Sri Lanka had been facing this problem for the last four decades and 35,000 people were affected by dengue virus in Sri Lanka in 2009.

He urged the columnists, editors and anchorpersons to apprise the people of the facts about dengue virus instead of spreading panic.

Shahbaz said the media should not only point out the shortcomings of the government but also apprise the people of the facts to dispel their fear. He said there was a need for informing the masses about preventive measures against dengue and the importance of cleanliness.
