Media seminar on training of journalists

HYDERABAD – Speakers at a seminar on the topic ‘Media and Sustainable Development’ em­phasised the need of organising the media men including broad­casters for their labour rights, education and training.

The seminar was organised by the Institute of Media and Sus-
tainable Development (IMSD).

Former student-leader Momin Khan Momin said democracy could not sustain without a free and independent media. Only the media provides voice to the people particularly those who face human rights violations, he said. Since media helps form the public opinion it should play its role carefully and not allow itself to be used by the govt, he said.

Provincial Coordinator Hu­man Rights Commission of Pa­kistan (HRCP) Akhtar Hussein BaIoch said that media could be very effective in measuring and exposing the human rights vio­lations. Free and fair media can playa vital role in curtailing the human rights violations by keep­ing a watch over such acts by tfte society and the state, he added.
He appreciated the English and Sindhi press for reporting human rights violations and added that Sindhi press had been under tight vigilance by the authorities. He also urged the newsmen to familiar­ise themselves with the latest techniques of reporting as well as information technology.

APTECH Hyderabad Manager Ayaz Solang while talking on media and information technol­ogy said the media men must educate themselves with infor­mation technology to meet the standards and requirements of the new IT age. He announced IT courses for the members of Hyderabad Press Club.’
Director, IMSD Ahmed Raza and Director Programs Shadab Murtaza also spoke on the occa­sion.
