Media role vital to reform society, says Governor

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah has said that indeed the new developments in respect of both the electronic and print media have led to bringing a big change in the society over the recent past in particular and being quite conscious of its sensitive role every possible help and support will be extended to the working press community of the provincial capital.

Talking to the office bearers of the Peshawar Press Club who called on him under the leadership of its President, Nasir Hussain at Governor’s House, Peshawar, on Monday, the Governor further stated that it is, beyond doubt, rightly considered the 4th pillar of state in a democratic society and no one can ignore its importance.

While referring to the future challenges in the backdrop of the prevailing situation both in the province and FATA, the Governor also stressed the need for more effective role and contribution of the media in projecting the positive image of the society.

The Governor, however, appreciated the spirit and courageous role of the press community of both the province and FATA for fulfilling their professional responsibilities in difficult hours and said that the role of Peshawar Press Club being the major organization amongst its sister institutions, is highly appreciable.

The Governor also paid tributes to the journalists who embraced martyrdom while fulfilling their professional responsibilities and assured the delegates to help them in getting their cases properly probed.

Responding to various demands put forward by the office bearers of the club, the Governor announced a grant Rs 0.5 million to meet immediate needs of the organization.
