‘Media freedom’ indispensable

PESHAWAR Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Labour and Culture Shaukat Yousafzai has said that there will be no democracy in a country where journalism is not free. “Journalism should be free and impartial,” he added. The provincial minister participated as a special guest on the last day of the workshop organ ised for the training of female students related to the media sector in Peshawar under the auspices of the Women Media Centre. During his speech, he said that electronic media has to face more difficulties than newspapers. The PTI leader further said that journalism has created big names and women journalists have played a big role. “Working with cameras and mic has gotten dangerous,” he said, adding that journalists are also at risk, therefore, the training process has become very important. He also remarked that former Prime Minister Imran Khan made a trade deal with Russia by eliminating fear and that was his “fault”.
