Man confesses to killing Wali Khan Babar

Karachi: One of the suspects in the murder case of Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar has confessed before a court to committing the offence.

Five of the accused namely, Shahrukh alias Mani, Faisal Mehmood alias Nafsiyati, Syed Mohammed Ali Rizvi, Naveed alias Polka and Shahid Malik were produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate Central, Nasrullah Korai for an identification parade on Thursday amidst tight security.

The prosecution witness identified the suspects during the parade. Earlier, all five were produced with their heads covered by a scarf in the second half of the court’s timings.

Following the identification parade, one of the suspects, Shahrukh alias Mani confessed to his crime. The suspect recorded his statement before the court under section 164(power to record statements and confession) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Geo News reporter Wali Khan Baber was shot dead near the Liaquatabad Supermarket in the first month of the current year, while he was on his way back home.

FIR 08/2011 was registered following a complaint by the brother of the deceased, Muhammat Khan Baber at the Super Market Police station.

All five of the accused were arrested on April 6th from within the limits of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station with the help of the Special Investigating Unit.
