Long march if judges not reinstated: Aitzaz

SUKKUR, April 3: The Supreme Court Bar Association President Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan warned on Thursday that the lawyers would stage a long-march if the government failed to reinstate deposed judges in 30 days.

Talking to journalists at Sukkur Airport, Aitzaz said that all the deposed judges would also take part in the march and expressed the hope that the issue would be solved within the deadline in accordance with Murree Declaration signed between Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif.

He said that the prime minister and Law Minster Farooq A Naik had reiterated the assurance that they would settle the issue before 30-day deadline ended.

The bar had, therefore, decided that “we will not take the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to any function of the bar during this period”.

Aitzaz arrived here from Karachi and later drove to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to take part in the death anniversary of Z.A. Bhutto and attend the meeting of the party’s central executive committee.

COURT BOYCOTT: Boycott of courts by lawyers was continued across Sindh in protest against the deposition of superior courts’ judges, reports our Hyderabad correspondent.

Lawyers staged rallies and protest general body meetings here on Thursday while many stayed in bar rooms discussing political situation.

In Hyderabad lawyers boycotted courts as per of their announced weekly protest call against the sacking of judges and demanded their reinstatement by the present government.

Wearing black armbands lawyers didn’t appear before courts to represent their clients in various criminal and civil cases pending before civil, sessions and high courts.

They took out a rally from civil court building and after marching briefly on roads the rally culminated at the same venue.
