Lawyers thrashed

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police used brutal force against lawyers, who took out a protest rally for the restoration of the Constitution and the independence of judiciary on Wednesday.

Lawyers assembled at the Islamabad courts and chanted anti-Musharraf slogans. The protesters denounced the suspension of the Constitution and the removal of judges. They announced to march towards the residence of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The police cordoned off the protest rally and used force to disperse the enraged lawyers. Several lawyers sustained injuries.

The police arrested noted lawyer Athar Minallah. Meanwhile, the Secretariat police beefed up security on all the avenues leading to the residence of the deposed chief justice.
