Lawyers slam torture on Munir A Malik

KARACHI – Lawyers condemned the reported torture on former president Supreme Bar Council Munir A Malik, during a General Body meeting held at Sindh High Court Bar Association on Monday.

Lawyers completely boycotted the proceedings of Sindh High Court and City Court’s lawyer observed one hour token strike against the imposition of emergency rule, removal of judges and curbs on media.

While in Malir District Court lawyers also observed one-hour token strike and away from
the courts’ proceedings while a meeting of Malir Bar was also held.
A general body meeting of SHCBA was held, which presided over by President SHCBA Abrar Hassan. A large number of lawyers attended the meeting and observed complete boycott of the court.

Addressing the meeting Rashid Rizvi member Supreme Bar Council (SBC) and Former President SHCBA briefed the lawyers about the meeting and decisions of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and SBC which was held in Islamabad. He said that PBC and SBC unanimously decided to continue the on going struggle of lawyers and advised the lawyer of high courts for complete boycott of the PCO judges and lawyers of other courts were advised to observe one hour strike in protest of emergency rule and removal of judges.
He dejected on the health condition of the former President SBC Munir A Malik who was arrested after imposition of emergency and he alleged that Munir Malik was brutally tortured by the jail authorities and his condition is critical. He informed the audience that Munir Malik had received inhuman treatment during his custody as he was solitary confined for three days despite the fact that he was seriously ill when we was arrested.
He also alleged that government did not provide any medical treatment to Munir Malik and his disease executed rapidly during his confinement and now he was in critical condition.

Rizvi further said that government had planned a massive rigging during the forth coming general elections and a drama is going to stage on the name of elections. He alleged that a massive rigging plan is quite visible as more than 70 districts and session judges have been transferred by the government in Sindh for getting desired elections result in all the constituencies and this is the first time in the history of Sindh government that more than 70 judges shuffled.

Abrar Hassan President SHCBA while addressing the meeting strongly condemned torture on Munir Malik and demanded the government to take serious action against the jail authorities who brutally treated him during the custody.
A resolution was also passed by the meeting which demands that Munir Malik should be sent abroad for his medical treatment, all the arrested lawyers must release immediately and all lawyers in high courts completely boycott the court’s proceedings till 05 December.

Meanwhile Karachi Bar Association (KBA) also held a meeting presided over by President KBA Javed Akhtar and addressed by secretary general KBA Naeem Qureshi at Shuhda-e-Punjab Hall City Court.

Naeem Qureshi strongly criticised the imposition of emergency and removal of judges and said that lawyers will continue their struggle till the restoration of democracy and deposed judges.
