Lahore’s music revelry days
The Mix, a tech festival presented by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), to feature indie music’s coolest cats, plus SKM takes the stage at True Brew Records.
As this piece is being written, Karachi’s premier indie music group is heading to Lahore for a series of live shows. Scheduled to perform live at True Brew Records ‘November Gigbender’ on the 3rd and 4th of November, the band from Karachi will be playing tunes from their self-titled debut album as well as unreleased tunes.
Featuring Nadir Shehzad on vocals, Mohammad Ali Suhail on lead guitar and backing vocals, Zahra Paracha on rhythm guitar, backing vocals and synth and Raheel Manzar Paul on drums, the group is presently gearing up to release its second studio album that has been in the making for some time. Having released a number of unique music videos, they recently displayed their evolving sound when they released ‘Gehri Neend’, a new track from their upcoming album that came attached with an equally thrilling music video that starred Mariam Saleem Nawaz (apart from the group) and was directed and edited by Khan.
Fans of SKM should also look out for their live sessions that were recorded recently at the ElectrikRoom Studios in Karachi. Of the four songs recorded in total, the first one, ‘Bemisal’ has been released and it’s a provoking performance that merits multiple views.
While we’re on the subject of music, the month of November is proving to be a good one. While Mekaal Hasan’s Rivayat Series returns to Karachi, Lahore will be seeing some thrilling music as part of The Mix, Pakistan’s first tech festival with a focus on tech, music, culture and food that is presented by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
Scheduled to take place on the 11th and 12th of November at Alhamra Complex Ghaddafi Stadium, the two-day event will not only feature a number of speakers, it will also showcase a sizable music contingent as part of Patari at the Mix.
Over the course of two days, artists as eclectic as Mehdi Maloof, Shamoon Ismail, Madlock, Janoobi Khargosh, Shajie, Keeray Makoray, SomeWhatSuper, Patari Tabeer (feat Abid Brohi, Nazar Gill), Mughal-e-Funk and Roots will be taking the stage. Whether it’s SKM or the artists mentioned above, all of them represent the new blood so to speak and serve as a great reminder that originality is still alive and kicking in music.
If you’re in Lahore, check out SKM at True Brew this week and gear up for Patari at The Mix as well. At a time when it feels like music in Pakistan has become saturated, these are artists who represent newer sounds and prove that it’s otherwise.
