Labour unions demand early restoration of democracy

KARACHI – As many as fifteen representative bodies of labour unions have demanded the restoration of democracy in the country. They also announced to chalk out a strategy for freedom of judiciary and the press, The Nation learnt on Saturday.

PTU meeting held here on Saturday at the union’s head office, that presided by PTU President Noor Mohamrnad, in which the, representatives from more then fifteen labour’s unions across the country took part in the meeting including, President of Pakistan Railway Workers Federation (PRWF) Manzoor Razi, President of Pakistan Workers Federation Mohammad Ahmed, Sheikh Majeed of People Labours Bureau (PLB) Raheel Iqbal, Jalil Khan of KPT Labours Union and others belonging to several labours’ unions. Participants of the meeting have strongly condemned the imposition of emergency and demanded to the government to restore democracy in the country and restore freedom of expression.

They also announced to chalk out their strategy to launch protest against imposition of emergency in the next meeting.

During the meeting several committees have been formed to launch the public contact campaign for launching struggle movement for removing emergency in the country.

Meanwhile Pakistan Railway Workers Federation (PRWF) has also held their meeting in the same day that presided by President Manzoor Razi in which the other leaders of the federation _participated in the meeting.
