Labour leaders, lawyers flay oppression of newsman

FAISALABAD- Labour leaders and lawyers have condemned the police oppression on journalists during the meeting of President Musharraf on 14th April at Iqbal Stadium.

Addressing the May Day meeting at the local Press Club Divisional General Secretary All Pakistan Trade Union Federation Noor Mohammad Chaudhry, Habib Bank Employees Federation ex-Secretary Tahir Chaudhry, prominent lawyer S.A Salam and Nisar Ahmed Advocate said that State oppression on journalists is yet another shameful act.

They said: “more that a hundred years have passed but the attitude of rulers and bureaucracy has not changed.” Presiding over the meeting Chairman Press Club Javed Siddique demanded immediate judicial inquiry into the incident of baton-charged on journalists in Faisalabad.

The speakers also demanded freedom of Press. A large number of journalists, labourers and wage earners vowed to continue their struggle in this direction.
