KBA, SCBA, SBC term ban on Geo Super basic HR violation

KARACHI: While issuing a public licence to Geo Super, the only sports channel in Pakistan, the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Member Sindh Bar Council (SBC), Member Executive Committee Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), and vice chairman Sindh Bar Council have said that the ban on Geo Super was a violation of basic human rights. They said the government should pay attention to sensitive issues of the country instead of misusing its institutions.

They questioned as to which direction the country is being pushed through such tactics – what hardships the nation is not facing today; the reason behind all is the government’s childish preferences. LawyersÂ’ leaders, who issued public licence to Geo Super at the office of KBA of City Court Complex, include members Sindh Bar Council Mehmoodul Hassan, Khalid Nawaz Khan Marwat, KBA President Muhammad Aaqil, General Secretary Syed Haider Imam Rizvi and members KBA Managing Committee, Member Executive Committee Supreme Court Bar Association Abbass Ali, SBC Vice Chairman Iftikhar Javed Qazi and other members of Karachi Bar Council and Sindh High Court Bar Association.

Mehmoodul Hassan said ban on Geo Super is an open violation of human rights, and the rulers do not know what havoc the suggestions of their advisers have been playing with the governance. He said the rulers do not care for masses and institutions. They also do not care for their own credibility.

The Member Sindh Bar Council said the rulers should think that as to what legacy they were leaving behind. The KBA president said that if the rulers had any sympathy with the public they would not have closed down the channel providing healthy entertainment to the public on childish justification.

The KBA general secretary said that whom and in what way the government was victimising by shutting down Geo Super. He said the lawyers’ community is with Geo Network, and will support it against any illegal step.

The SCBA members questioned as to what the government wanted to achieve by banning Geo Super and it was lamentable to think that on the one side the country was facing challenges while on the other the rulers were becoming the cause of tarnishing the image of the country.
