Karachi Union of Journalists chalks out action plan for Wage Award implementation

KARACHI- An extended meeting of the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) chalked out an action plan to press for the implementation of the 7th Wage Award and other demands of the newspaper journalists and workers.

The meeting decided to observe token hunger strike from July 22 to 31.

KUJ and All Pakistan Newspapers Editors Confederation (Apnec) members will be mobilised for attending the joint meeting on July 15 at the Karachi Press Club. It was decided that posters and handbills outlining the reasons and aims and objects of the workers’ struggle would be distributed among the members and workers to apprise them of the situation arising out of the decision of the newspaper owners to move the Supreme Court against the Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) Act, 1973 and the Wage Board.

The meeting endorsed the decisions taken at the joint FEC and NEC meeting of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) and Apnec held at Islamabad on June 29-30.

It was further decided that the month of August would be dedicated to holding of seminars and rallies to press for the just demands of the pressmen and newspaper workers.

The KUJ will contact labour unions, political parties and groups, NGOs and government officials to intimate them about the just demands of newspaper workers and to enlist their help in this struggle.
