KARACHI: Mast FM 103, a local radio station, resumed its transmission at 4:00 p.m. Thursday as the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) returned their transmitters and other equipment.

The station had been non-functional since the Sindh police and PEMRA officials raided their Karachi studios in November and seized all their broadcasting equipment. Administrative in-charge of the radio station Arshad Kiyani told PPI on Thursday that he had met PEMRA Chairman Iftikhar Rashid. “Resuming the broadcast was made possible only due to the untiring struggle of the journalists for freedom of the press.

There has been no written agreement regarding what the station can or cannot broadcast, as the PEMRA ordinance does not relate to radio.” Kiyani said that they’ve been told to focus on Karachi, refrain from national issues and not broadcast news bulletins from BBC radio. ppi
