KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Minister for Home Affairs Brigadier (retd) Akhtar Zamin has taken serious notice of falsely implicating political workers and citizens in cases registered in relation to incidents of violence following Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.

According to an official handout, the caretaker minister took notice of this after receiving various complaints. A number of political workers approached the minister and complained about the registration of fake FIRs. The minister assured them that they would be treated fairly and added that fake FIRs would be withdrawn after being scrutinized.

According to reports, police have registered thousands of cases against at least 200,000 people, including PPP leaders and workers, throughout the province. Over 300 cases have been filed in Karachi. The police have also arrested hundreds of political workers and citizens from different areas of Sindh.

In Hyderabad, the police filed cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act against around 4,000 persons, including PPP and STPP workers and leaders. PPP former MPA Zahid Hussain Bhurgari and others have been implicated in a case registered against an attack on the residence of former Sindh chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim. The PPP’s Wali Mohamamd Rahimoon, taluka nazim of Khawand Bux Jhejo, and STPP’s Mahboob Abro are among the others who were accused.

In Jacobabad, the police have filed cases against over 2,000 persons, including Babul Khan Jakharani, whose son, Mir Aijaz Jakhrani, is contesting against the sister of the caretaker prime minister, Mohammadmian Soomro, for a National Assembly constituency of the district. Similarly in Kashmore, PPP candidate Shahryar Mazari and leaders Gul Mohammad Jakhrani, Israr Khan Khoso and others have been implicated for different incidents of violence.

According to reports, the police have filed cases against at least 3,000 persons in Panu Aqil, over 1,100 in Tando Jam, around 2,500 in Sanghar, about 11,000 in Tando Mohammad Khan, at least 8,000 in Kotri, 10,000 in Thatta, 15,000 in Qambar, 3,000 in Sobhodero, over 1,000 in Khairpur, around 2,000 in Nasirabad, 4,000 in Nausheroferoze, 2,000 people in Thul and more than 1,000 in Jamshoro.

In district Ghotki, PPP leaders Ikramullah Dharejo and others have been implicated for different incidents of violence. Similarly, former PPP MPA Sassui Palijo, Ghulam Qadir Palijo, Arbab Wazir Memon and others were accused in district Thatta. In district Tharparkar, PPP leaders Mahesh Malani, Mohammad Khan Lund and others have been implicated.

In district Matiari, some 5,000 people have been implicated in different cases, around the same number in Gambat, over 10,000 in Thari Mirwah, 16,000 in Ranipur and more than 12,000 persons in Benazir’s native town, Naudero.
