Judges’ restoration

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said he was ready to issue an executive order for the restoration of judges if the coalition leadership asked him.

The prime minister was talking to members of the parliamentary party of the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDA). Gilani said the PDA members were sincere in the implementation of the Murree Declaration.

According to sources, queries were raised during the meeting on the implementation of the Bhurban Declaration and the prime minister assured the members what was agreed in Bhurban Declaration would be implemented in the prescribed timeframe.

Sources, who attended the meeting, told The News that there were indications that a resolution for restoration of the judges would be moved in the National Assembly either on Thursday or Friday.

Prime Minister Gilani asked every member of the National Assembly to propose development schemes worth Rs one million by April 30. When a member raised the issue of giving extension to Defence Secretary Kamran Rasool after his retirement, the prime minister refused to give extension to any one, including the defence secretary.

“I will not give extension to any one in service and I have told the defence secretary to work till decision is made by next week,” sources quoting the prime minister said. Sources said Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf also gave briefing to the parliamentary party about the situation of power shortage in the country and asked them to give suggestion for saving the energy. The prime minister is expected to again chair the parliamentary meeting on Wednesday in which important decisions are likely to be made, sources said.
