Journalists vow to continue struggle for press freedom

SLAMABAD – Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists continued their protest against curbs on media, as hundreds of media persons staged a protest demonstration in front of the Press Club. Noted journalists and civil society representatives, while wearing black bands and hoisting black flags, chanted full-throat slogans for the press freedom.

A large number of students also participated in the procession to exhibit their solidarity for the great cause of freedom of expression.

“Despite accepting the just demands of journalists community, government started torturing journalists across the country. It is state terrorism and we want to clear one thing on rulers that our struggle for the restoration of Constitution will never cease till fulfil our demands,” said Afzal Butt.

Resident Editor Nawa-i-Waqt Javed Siddique strongly condemned the use of brutal force used by police against journalists in Karachi, Quetta and other cities of the country. Journalists recited their resistant poems.
Leader Jamaat-i-Islami, AJK chapter Abdul Rashid Turabi while addressing the gathering said, “JI standing by journalists fraternity in this time of test when country is passing through troubled waters for the restoration of democracy and inalienable civil rights.”
