Journalists slam closure of news channels’
BADIN: Local journalists under the banner of Union of Journalists, Electronic and Media Association Badin held a protest meeting to condemn the government for shutting down Geo and ARY news channels here on Sunday.
A joint meeting of the district press club and district union of journalists was held in the press club with its president Allah Rakhio Mallah in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, journalists Abdul Shakoor Memon, Tanveer Arain, Shafee Memon and others criticized the government for closing down the news channels. In separate press statements, district president PPP Sikandar Ali Mandhro, Abdul Ghafoor Nizamani, Ameer Hassan Khoso, Dr. Musarat Hussain Khuwaja, Tauseef Ahmed of PMLÂN, and others said that setting conditions to beam programmes on news channels was the negation of free media. They demanded that the government should withdraw its decision and allow both channels to resume their networks.
