Journalists Protest curbs on media

MULTAN, Nov 14: Local journalist on Wednesday demanded withdrawal of amendments to press laws and an end to the governmental pressure on cable service providers.

During a protest camp set up at the Press Club, the journalists hoisted black flags and wore black armbands. Some of them had gagged themselves, symbolising the curbs on free expression, while others were raising anti-government slogans.

They vowed to continue their struggle till lifting of curbs on media.

A delegation of Multan High Court Bar, led by advocate Pervez Aftab, former bar president, Abdul Aziz Niazi and Sabiha Randhawa visited the protest camp and expressed solidarity with the journalists.

Taj Muhammad Sooz, central president, National Trade Unions Pakistan, Rabnawaz Lashari, Syed Qaswar Razi of Habib Bank Employees Union, Iftikhar Mughal of Anjuman Shehriaan and Mazhar Jamil Qureshi, former president DBA, also visited the camp.

Hameed Asghar Shaheen, Seraiki Qaumi Movement president also spoke on the occasion.
