Lahore Press Club members elected their office-bearers for 2024-2025 in a day-long polling here at the press club on Sunday.

The new office-bearers are: President Arshad Ansari, Senior Vice President Shiraz Hasnat, Vice President Amjad Usmani, General Secretary Zahid Abid, Finance Secretary Salik Jalal and Joint Secretary Jafar Bin Yar.

The nine governing body members are: Ijaz Mirza, Baba Abid Hussain, Rana Shehzad, Syed Badar Saeed, Shahida Butt, Shehbaz Chaudhry, Mohsin Bilal, Fatima Mukhtar, Imran Sheikh and Alia Mukhtar.

This year, there was one to one competition between Journalists-Progressives Alliance, led by Arshad Ansari and Moeen Azhar, and Pioneer Group of Azam Chaudhry.

Traditionally there have been two oldest groups: Journalist Group, led by Arshad Ansari, and Progressive Group of Moeen Azhar and Sajid Majeed. Three years ago, Azam Chaudhry, who was earlier part of the Progressive Part, formed his own group – Pioneer Group – and won elections for president office for two consecutive terms.

Progressive Group remained in the swim with Sajid Majeed’s election victories as general secretary in the last two elections.

This year, the traditional rivals joined hands to oust Azam Chaudhry group and their plans worked out.

This year, the Journalist-Progressive Alliance won the offices of president, vice president, general secretary and finance secretary, while the Pioneer group won the offices of senior vice president and joint secretary.

For nine governing body seats, the alliance won six seats and the remaining three went to the Pioneer group.

According to senior journalist Hassan Naqvi, the new body faces the daunting task of making the phase two of journalists housing colony a reality, getting plots of journalists in block B of Journalists Housing Colony free from the qabza group and completing the electrification of F Block.
