Journalists, Opposition stage token walk out from NA over closure of Royal TV transmission

ISLAMABAD:Journalists and Opposition staged a token walk out from NA proceedings following closure of transmission of Royal TV since three days without any prior notice.

In the walk out, MMA’s Liaqat Baloch, PPPP’s Raja Pervez Ashraf, PML (N) Tehmina Daultana strongly condemned over closure of Royal TV.

They were of the view that politics and journalism cannot be separated slamming Government for their so-called prudent policies.

They said that by giving notices to TV channels the government is creating hurdles in Freedom of Press.

On the other hand, Speaker National Assembly told the treasury members to go to Journalists and listen to their reservations and assure them that their problems will be solved.

Later, State Minister for Interior Zafar Iqbal Wariach, Federal Minister for Overseas, Labour and Manpower Ghulam Sarwer Khan and Malik Aslam had a long chat with the Journalists and expressed their ignorance over the notice given by PEMRA to close the Royal TV.

After giving them explanation, Speaker NA requested the Journalists to come back and assured them their legitimate demands will be fulfilled thus Journalists after arguments concluded their walk out.

On a point of order in NA, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afghan said that there was no flaw in PEMRA Act 2007 adding that three to four months were utilised for its formation.

In its preparation, representatives of Pakistan Broadcasting and Newspapers were consulted.

He added that full homework has been done on preparation of PEMRA Act 2007.
