Journalists observe sit-in outside KPC

KARACHI (November 25 2007): On the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) in collaboration with the Karachi Press Club (KPC) observed a sit-in outside the KPC, here on Saturday.

Journalists belonging to both KUJs (Burna and Dastori), CPNE, ATJ and other bodies attended the protest. Journalists were carrying the banners and placard inscribed with slogans against black laws, off-airing of private TV channels and emergency rule.

Shamim-ur-Rehman, President KUJ, said the journalists’ campaign for the independence of media had entered in the second phase. He said the most poplar TV talk show of a banned private TV channel was staged at Islamabad Press Club, and huge crowd came there to see their favourite program.

He said dictatorship had no future in Pakistan and it must go. He said baton-charge, arrests and threats to journalists would not prevent them from their cause upholding the truth.
