Journalists mourn death of Nasrullah Afridi, demand judicial inquiry

PESHAWAR: The journalist community on Thursday condemned the assassination of tribal newsman Nasrullah Afridi and asked the government to order a judicial inquiry into the incident and award exemplary punishment to the killers.

The journalists gathered at the Peshawar Press Club under the aegis of the Khyber Union of Journalists, Peshawar Press Club and Tribal Union of Journalists where they offered Quran Khwani for the departed soul of their colleague.

It was followed by a condolence reference and then a protest to press the government to take steps for the protection of media persons, unveil the inquiry reports of the slain journalists and conduct a probe into the killing of Nasrullah Afridi.

The condolence reference was addressed by president Khyber Union of Journalists Arshad Aziz Malik, general secretary Yousaf Ali, president Peshawar Press Club Saiful Islam Saifi, general secretary Shahid Hameed, president of the Tribal Union of Journalists Safdar Hayat Dawar and others.
