Journalist’s house blown up

PESHAWAR, Jan 5: The house of Dawn’s correspondent in Shakardarra in Swat has been blown up and no group or individual has claimed responsibility.

People of Shakardarra village in Matta tehsil were asked to leave their homes last week when security forces launched an operation in the area against militants.

When people were allowed to return to the village on Monday, Hameedullah Khan and his brother Javedullah found out that their house had been blown up.

The house had been built a few years ago and the brothers said their family had no enmity with anyone. One police station and some other houses were also blown up during the operation.

Hameedullah also owned a superstore in Mingora which was burnt down by militants last year. He has received no compensation so far.

Journalists working in the conflict zone have suffered huge financial losses and quite a few of them have lost their lives.

A sister of a journalist was killed by shelling and three journalists lost their lives during the conflict.

Hameedullah Khan urged the government to pay compensation for the financial losses he has suffered.
