Journalists’ groups clash for FPC control, 14 injured

FAISALABAD: Police on Sunday took control of the Faisalabad Press Club (FPC) after a clash between two groups of journalists, which left 14 of them injured.

The two rival journalists groups, in their bid to take possession of the FPC, first started fighting and then opened fire at each other.

The injured included Mohsan Farooq, Saeed Sofi, Sajid, Shafqat, Maqbool, Naeem Ashraf, Aqeel, Ashfaq, Imran, Ghulam Massi, Munir Ahmad, Nadir Khan, Tahir and Sajjad, who were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

On receiving information, SSP Sadiq Dogar along with heavy police contingent reached the press club and took dozens of journalists into custody.

The SSP took the control of the Faisalabad Press Club. Heavy police were still deployed at the building.

DCO Naseem Sadiq also reached the FPC and sealed the press club as a preventive measure to avoid further clashes. However, the journalists sitting in the press club sought time from the DCO to solve the issue amicably.

No case of this incident was registered so far.
