Journalists demand removal of Lahore CTO
LAHORE: Journalists continued their protest against Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Capt (retd) Malik Liaqat and demanded his immediate removal from the office.
The journalists, led by Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari, staged a protest demonstration outside the Punjab Assembly and decided to hold a complete boycott of the government coverage until the CTO Lahore was removed from the post. The protest was also attended by President Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Mian Aslam, President Punjab Union of Journalist Qamar Bhatti, former President PA Press Gallery Khawaja Naseer and others.
The journalists also demanded restoration of advertisements to Jang, Geo and Dawn and warned of not covering the National Assembly and Senate sessions if the demand was not met.
Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan was badly grilled by the journalist community for the inability of his government to take action against Malik Liaqat under whose tenure, traffic wardens were targeting citizens of Lahore.
Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat also visited the journalists and held negotiations with them but the media community called for the removal of Malik Liaqat and conveyed to him that all events of the government would be boycotted.
