Journalists demand grilling of guilty cops

HAVELI LAKHA – The local journalists here on Sunday staged a protest against the police torture on media men in Pakpattan during the Urs celebrations of Sufi Saint Hazrat Baba Fareed Ganj-e-Shaker (RA).

The protest was staged under the aegis of Press Club Haveli Lakha to express solidarity with the aggrieved journalists of Pakpattan and condemned the maltreatment meted out to them at the hands of the police.

The journalist gathered at the press club from where they took out a protest rally. The protesters were holding placard and banners inscribed with slogans against the police. The participants of the rally went through various roads and reached in front of the press club where they staged a protest demo.

Speaking in the occasion, Press Club Chairman Muhammad Mateen Aasi and Generel Secretary Fiaz Mudassar condemned the police highhandedness and expressed their full support for the victim journalists. On the occasion they assured that their protest would continue until the authorities take a stern action against the police officials involved in the incident.

They also warned that if the authorities continue sheltering the police officials concerned and fail to initiate any action against them the journalists’ community would launch a massive protest across the province.
