Journalists colony: Gilani agrees on Rs250m subsidy

LAHORE, May 16: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday accepted demands of the Lahore Press Club, agreeing to pay Rs250 million subsidy for the housing colony of journalists in Lahore.

He was talking to the club’s governing body which called on him at his residence.

According to LPC president Sarmad Bashir, the prime minister said he would make announcement regarding the demands of the club at the oath-taking ceremony of the governing body in a week.

The demands included sanctioning Rs250 million for clearing dues of the plots of the journalists in Lahore as was promised by President Zardari in February this year.

Another demand was to honour the commitment of the president to arrange for soft loans for the Lahore journalists for the construction of their houses in the colony.

Mr Sarmad said the prime minister agreed to arrange for group medical insurance of the journalists and their families, and to sanction a recurring annual grant for the club.

PM visits Ramday: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani visited the residence of Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday here on Sunday to offer condolences on the demise of his nephew.

He also visited Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal to express sorrow and grief over the recent demise of his mother.
