Journalist’s brother killed in Wana

TANK, August 31 2006: A 14-year-old brother of Dilawar Khan Wazir, correspondent of Daily Dawn and BBC Urdu Service in the South Waziristan Agency, was killed by unidentified assailants in Wana on Wednesday (Aug 30). Taimoor, a student of class VII, was kidnapped while he was going to his Darvish Public School. Locals who took him to the civil hospital where he succumbed to injuries found he unconscious and wounded near the Karikot area.

Doctors said the boy died of torture. They said Taimoor had received severe injuries on his neck. Eight months ago, suspected militants had planted a bomb outside the house of Mr. Wazir, forcing him to move to Dera Ismail Khan from the restive Waziristan. His family, however, continue to live in Karikot. There was no immediate word on who might be behind the kidnapping and death of Taimoor. Mr. Wazir said his family did not have enmity with any body.
