Journalists boycott official proceedings
ISLAMABAD – journalist fraternity on Monday boycotted all official proceedings to register their protest on the proclamation of emergency and restrictions on media.
Owing to boycott, Ministry of Foreign Affairs was forced to shelve its weekly briefings while the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of Baba Fareed Bridge over River Sutlej held at the PM secretariat also received no media coverage.
Despite the fact that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz inaugurated the ceremony, journalists and media persons including cameramen and photographers left earlier after recording their protests.
The PID (Press Information Department) that operates under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting managed to contact some journalists and busiÂness managers, who were regular beneficiaries of governmental advertisement quota to cover the event.
