Journalists’ sit-in against land grabbers
LAHORE: PAKISTAN Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ), All Pakistan Newspapers Employers Confederation (APNEC) and Lahore Press Club (LPC) jointly held a protest demonstration and sit-in at the Charring Cross against land-grabbing mafia and registration of fake case against the journalists on Friday.
They gave a 15-day deadline to Punjab government to eliminate land grabbers from their housing society at Harbanspura otherwise they would launch a countrywide protest.
Hundreds of journalists gathered at the Charring Cross and chanted slogans against the incumbent Punjab government and police. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the government, land-grabbing mafia and police.
The journalists’ leaders demanded action against the qabza mafia and PML-N MPAs who were supporting and protecting the land grabbers for illegally occupying land at Lahore Press Club Housing Society Scheme Harbanspura.
Addressing the journalists, PUFJ President Pervez Shoukat said the Punjab government instead of providing security and due rights to journalists had registered fake cases against the journalists. He made it clear that every nefarious design of the government would be foiled by the journalists of the country. He said government was harassing the journalist community with such tactics. He gave a 15-day deadline to the mafia and warned that journalists would launch a countrywide protest if their demand was not met. Chairman APNEC Nasir Naqvi said the journalists had never bowed down before any ruler nor would do so at any cost. PUJ President Rana Azeem said it was the duty of the government to protect the rights of the journalists instead of harassing them. He said all journalists should come forward to get their colony vacated from the land grabbers.
