Journalist, photographer thrashed

LAHORE – A photographer and a reporter of a local Urdu daily were severely beaten up by Nishtar Town Building Inspector and others for ‘interfering in the official matter’ in KotLakhpat in police limits on Saturday.

Nishtar Town Building Inspector Shaikh Shaukat and other employees were demolishing ‘houses and shops when a photographer of a local Urdu daily tried to make a photograph. The Building Inspector and others caught the photographer and started beating him for ‘interfering in the official matter’. Meanwhile, a reporter of the same newspaper tried to intervene they gave him a severe thrashing as well and snatched camera and cell phone from them.
Later, Shaikh Shaukat and the policemen of the corporation took them to Kot Lakhpat Police Station and got them locked up. Inspector Akhtar Abbass Shah later released them after two hours by getting their signatures on a plain paper.
The Building Inspector had alleged that the journalists had manhandled them and tried to intervene in the official matter. But during inquiry by Inspector Akhtar Abbass Shah these allegations proved to be fake.
