Journalist on judicial remand
LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent Asad Kharal, a television journalist, to jail on judicial remand in a case of ‘attacking’ police officials deputed for his security.
Kahna police produced the journalist before the court and sought his further remand to complete the investigation in the case.
However, the magistrate turned down the request and remanded Kharal in judicial custody
The magistrate directed the police to submit its investigation report on Aug 10.
The police registered the FIR against Kharal on charges of holding the police personnel hostage, and attacking them with guns.
The police also recovered an official rifle from the custody of the journalist.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of head constable Ashfaq Ahmad under sections 353 (attacking a government servant), 342 (keeping a person in illegal detention), 324 (attempted murder) and 392 (dacoit) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
