Journalist and sister injured in attempted kidnapping

By Hasbanullah Khan

KHAR: A journalist, belonging to a local tribe, and his sister were injured on Wednesday when unidentified militants made a failed attempt to kidnap him from his home in Khar, the injured man’s family told Daily Times.

Muhammad Imran Khan — a correspondent for a private news agency in Khar — and his 14-year-old sister were taken to a hospital in Peshawar with multiple injuries after the incident. The minor girl is said to be in critical condition.

Imran and his sister were first treated at a hospital in Khar and then shifted to Peshawar, his family members said. The family could not say who the attackers were.

“Around 10 masked men attacked Imran at home and tried to kidnap him. Imran resisted the kidnapping attempt and that is what saved him from the captivity of the militants,” the family said.

Separately, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Azam Tariq told journalists in North Waziristan that the “pro-America” media was spreading wrong information about the Taliban.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran’s father — Muhammad Ibrahim Khan — was shot dead on May 22, 2008, after returning from an interview with a spokesman for the TTP. Local journalists believe that the TTP are responsible for the attempted kidnapping.
