Journalism playing important role
HYDERABAD – Syed Attiqul Hassan, Editor of Australian-based newspaper Tribune International, said that journalism in today’s world has captured an important role and due to the new development of the information technology especially the Internet world has virtually turned into a global village.
He was speaking at a lecture programme on “Journalism in Advanced Society” organised by the mass communication department of Sindh University on the occasion of its 27th Foundation Day, in Hyderabad on October 3.
Referring to the attitude of Western world against the Muslim countries and people, he dispelled the impression that the west is against the Muslim countries saying that it was the failure of Muslim society to establish the fact that religiously or otherwise the Muslims are peace-loving people and equally contributing for a peaceful world free from exploitation and injustices.
Attiqul Hassan, who had graduated from the same University, said that the greater responsibility lied upon the shoulders of the media and those associated with it to play their vital role in projecting the point of view of the Muslim society.
He said to project their point of view in western world one should have good command over English Language and knowledge on the subject to express their viewpoint before the readers and listeners.
Tribune International Editor said that in field of the Journalism the dedication, clarity of goals, vision and positive approach are imperative for the success in the profession.
Earlier, Sindh University Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui assured the faculty members and the students of the Mass Communication Department for provision of latest facilities.
He said that latest computers and other required material would be given very soon to the computer laboratory while the proposals for the establishment of FM Radio and mini Television station have already been approved. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh speaking on the occasion congratulated the faculty members as well as the students on the 27th foundation celebrations of the department.
