Jang spokesman regrets news items on media row

ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for the Jang Group of newspapers has denied news items appearing in sections of the press suggesting all matters with the government had been resolved

Expressing regrets over the news item released by an official news agency and similar items by other agencies, the spokesman, in a statement on Sunday said news items of this kind created bitterness and misunderstandings.

The spokesman said the negotiations with a government delegation chaired for the first time by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, which seriously addressed matters and reached agreements stand in their own place. He said these agreements and decisions were still to be implemented. When such implementation took place only then would it be seen that the government was taking the steps required to protect the freedom of the Press.

The spokesman referred in particular to a news item released by the official news agency APP, quoting Ehtesab Chief Senator Saifur Rehman, and expressed strong regrets. He added all those involved in the process should issue statements which could bring about progress in the situation and take matters towards improvement.
