ISLAMABAD: The only cinema in the capital will start functioning next week in the auditorium of the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

Sources told Daily Times that all necessary arrangements had been made in this regard. “We are planning to stage one film daily as we cannot afford to book the auditorium for the whole day,” they said.

They said, “We do not want to disturb literary activities and art performances at the PNCA auditorium that take place in the morning and afternoon.” There exists no hard and fast rule to follow, so initially Pakistani movies will be screened in the cinema while foreign issued based movies could also be staged, sources added. They said the option of re-launching the cinema by screening the internationally acclaimed film ‘Jinnah’ based on life of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was being considered. The second film might be ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ that has been running successfully in cinemas in Pakistan and abroad, the added.

“Necessary equipment has been imported from China while the projector has been gifted by the Chinese,” sources said.

The film developing section at the PNCA has been functioning quite efficiently and work on sub-titling selected Pakistani movies, to be staged in near future, is also in progress, they added.
